Chief of Staff

As the largest college access nonprofit in the country, College Advising Corps (CAC) is devoted to giving every student the opportunities that college offers. We focus on college enrollment and completion among low-income, first-generation-college and underrepresented high school students by delivering personalized, knowledgeable guidance on college admission, financial aid, and enrollment. 

We do this through two innovative program models: 

  • In-school model: We place well-trained, recent college graduates from our partner universities as full-time college advisers in high schools across the nation. 
  • Virtual model: We leverage technology to connect well-trained, recent college graduates with students everywhere in the U.S. that technology can reach. 

Advisers become part of their school community, collaborate with teachers and administrators, devise creative approaches to reach and connect with students and families, and play an integral role in changing the lives of the students they serve. 


The Chief of Staff (CoS) will play a critical role in our organization by providing strategic counsel on key initiatives to the CEO and other senior leaders within CAC. The CoS will assume the responsibility for creating and implementing detailed project plans and associated project deliverables throughout all phases of key projects including planning, executing and monitoring. The CoS will serve as a liaison with strategic partners and will be responsible for creating and maintaining collaborative relationships with CAC staff members, the Board of Directors, and external constituents. The CoS will work closely with the CEO on communications. The CoS will supervise the Executive Assistant to the CEO in order to ensure alignment on all initiatives related to the CEO.


The Chief of Staff will be a highly motivated self-starter with a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7-8 years of experience providing project management, communications and organizational development logistical to a CEO.

  • Experience creating and implementing project management plans including scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, etc.
  • Experience hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising administrative personnel.
  • Highly organized and experienced leading multiple projects with attention to detail and command of project specifications.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage workload, and attain goals.
  • Experience leading and participating in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with exceptional ability to communicate in writing and verbally about project management issues at all levels of the organization. 
  • Culture- and mission-driven – extremely passionate about CAC and increasing opportunity for all students.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the year.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities.
  • High level of interpersonal maturity, grace, self-awareness, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
